    Welcome to the capital of byzantine mosaics! Ravenna is a treasure chest of art, history and culture. The basilicas and baptisteries of the city contain the richest heritage of mosaics dating from the 5th and 6th centuries and eight historic buildings included in the World Heritage List of UNESCO.The old town centre of Ravenna offers many traces of its ancient past, thanks to the very good preservation of its early Christian and Byzantine monuments. I suggest a half-day guided tour (to a maximum of 3 hours in the morning or in the afternoon) which will enable you to fully appreciate the splendours of our art and history. The visit will include the Gothic Basilica of Sant'Apollinare Nuovo, the splendid Byzantine church of San Vitale, the most ancient Mausoleum of Galla Placidia and the Orthodox Baptistery located nearby the town cathedral. All these marvels can be seen simply by taking a stroll through the centre of Ravenna. During our walk in the pedestrian area you will have a chance to step into a mosaic workshop, have a pause for coffee in the main square and visit the Tomb of Dante Alighieri, Italy's most distinguished poet, who died here in 1321.
